Gospel Practices

What are Gospel Practices?

Gospel Practices are classes, book studies, and experiences designed to help followers of Jesus who desire to grow in their faith and learn to love, obey, and glorify God. Being a disciple begins in the heart and creeps into every corner of a person’s life. Discipleship is more than a class, a process, or a pathway.  It is a work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who willingly embrace the task.  Our Gospel Practices are designed to help you face life and follow Jesus.

What happens during a Gospel Practice?

Each Gospel Practice session is designed to help us develop and maintain the marks of a disciple: a warm and growing affection for Jesus and people, a life oriented around the mission of God, and a growing collection of stories to tell. While community will happen, our focus will be on learning the way of Jesus and developing habits of following Him. Each Gospel Practice session will involve in-class discussion and participation as well as on-your-own reading and related homework.

What is the Gospel Practice schedule?

Gospel Practices will kick off four times a year, on dates that roughly follow the four quarters of the school year.  Sometimes we will offer Gospel Practices during the summer and sometimes we won’t.  Each Gospel Practice will meet weekly during each session, and may run as many as nine weeks, though many will be shorter.  Red Hill operates on an August-through-July year. Our Gospel Practices will kick off in September of the 2023-2024 year. The number and particular practice(s) presented each session will vary based on demand, availability of space, and availability of leaders.

“The greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking needs, is whether those who, by profession or culture, are identified as ‘Christians’ will become disciples – students, apprentices, practitioners – of Jesus Christ, steadily learning from him how to live the life of the Kingdom of the Heavens into every corner of human existence.”
— Dallas Willard, The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus's Essential Teachings on Discipleship

How can I be involved?

The best way to be involved is to show up faithfully! Stay tuned for information on which Gospel Practices will be offered in our first session and how you can register.

If you want to host a Gospel Practice in your home, let us know! Unlike with GCs, the commitment is not open ended, since each Gospel Practice session is isolated and not more than nine weeks.  Also unlike GCs, there’s no meal involved. If you’re willing to share some seats  and host a Gospel Practice, or if you have questions about what hosting looks like, let us know!

I want to discuss leading/hosting a Gospel Practice

Are you passionate about a particular aspect of following Jesus? Are you willing to commit to show up for a few weeks to teach others what you know and model, however imperfectly, what it looks like to follow Jesus? If you’re interested in leading (or helping to lead) a Gospel Practice, let us know by emailing: rayden@redhill.church

Have questions? If you have any questions about Gospel Practices at Red Hill,
