The 10:2 Project
“He told them, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into HIS HARVEST.’”
Luke 10:2, CSB
The 10:2 Project is a 12 week mission trip to our own community. It kicks off this Thursday evening, October 2nd, at 7pm. We will gather at the box for an hour of worship and prayer. The project will end on Christmas Day, and we will have a celebration service on the last Sunday of the year. Participants in the project make the following 3 commitments:
#1: Pray every day at 10:02 (am or pm or both).
#2: Invite 10 friends or families to a worship gathering.
#3: Share their own faith story 2 times.
The goal of this project is to see our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family come to know, love, and follow Jesus. Every Sunday during 10:2 Pastor Rayden will give a full presentation of the gospel and ask for a response during the worship gatherings. Our hope and prayer is that God will show us favor and establish the work of our hands.
The community we live in is in desperate need of the gospel. There are nearly 8,000 people who live within ONE MILE of our church building. More than 41,000 live within THREE MILES, and when the radius is stretched to ten miles we find that more than 160,000 people are within reach. That represents more than 65,000 households, and it doesn’t even include all of the college students who live on campus at SIUE. When our family moved to the Metro East in 2015, roughly 80% of the population fell into the category of “unchurched” or “de-churched”.
If that statistic holds true it means that there are more than 130,000 people living within ten miles of the box who do not have a relationship with Jesus. Let that settle in. 130,000 people will have to live this life without the hope, healing, forgiveness, purpose, and love of Christ and will spend eternity in hell.
The 10:2 Project exists to provoke us to do our part in changing that story. Only God can save souls. Only God can bring those who are dead in their sins back to life in Christ. Only God can offer the forgiveness that frees us from slavery to sin and makes us alive in Christ. But only the church can share the news that God loves sinful people, welcomes everyone, and will forgive everything.
