Take A Friend

10:2 - Take A Friend

“He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean spirits…So they went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out demons, anointing many sick people with oil and healed them.”

Mark 6:7, 12-13

Jesus sent out His disciples, but it’s so important to see that he didn’t send them out alone. He sent them in pairs. One of the common features of Christianity in our culture is that it’s hyper-individualized. We have a personal relationship with Jesus. We have a personal and private “quiet time” in our devotional lives. We deal with sin on our own. We fight temptation on our own. We face our needs on our own. We struggle through insecurities on our own.

But we weren’t designed to be alone. We are image bearers of the Triune God who exists eternally in perfect communion with Himself. And when Jesus came in the flesh and began His ministry, He gathered men around Him to learn from Him, to work with Him, to pray with Him, and to be with Him.

Jesus didn’t face life alone, and He doesn’t intend for you to face it alone either.

Jesus sent His disciples two by two. Taking a friend with you is one of the best ways to overcome both your fear and your lack of movement. Grab a friend, and get un-stuck in your faith! Open your Bible with a buddy and learn together. Buy someone a cup of coffee and tell them about your struggles. Pick a friend or family member who you want to see become a Christian, and then grab a friend (or two or three friends) and start praying! The mission will move forward faster, your faith will grow, and your joy will be greater. The best friendships are forged in the mission. Grab a buddy, and let’s get to work!
